With estimated revenue of $1.8M and conference costs of $2.1M, we didn’t have the funds to support every applicant. In round one, we offered $360K, or about 24%, of the grant requests received. This is a record number of travel grants received and offered. We know many folks hoped for a grant and were disappointed not to receive one, so we wanted to share more about the process.

Travel Grant Funding

PyCon US travel grants are funded by various sources, from PyCon US ticket sales and sponsorships, Python Core Devs, the PSF, and generous contributions from PyLadies.

In 2024, some funding sources have contracted. To date, we have not received any corporate travel grant sponsorships. Furthermore, the crunch in the tech sector’s economy is negatively affecting general conference sponsorship. Inflation in event costs and lower projected sponsorships have combined to create a significant loss for PyCon US this year. The tech sector crunch also means that corporations aren’t funding travel for both speakers and attendees, which leads to more travel grant requests, which leads to us awarding a lower percentage of travel grants.

Travel Grant Award Philosophy

PyCon US Travel Grants are intended to support our non-profit mission to promote, protect, and advance the Python programming language, and to support and facilitate the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers. Overall, we aim to have an event that reflects that diverse community and our diverse interests, that brings together people who will get a lot out of the event and bring benefits back to their home communities, and that is engaging and impactful from the first tutorial to the last sprint.

To those ends, a part of our budget went to funding our incredible lineup of speakers. We also considered factors such as getting representation from around the world, bringing people who have never attended PyCon US, people who are looking for work, as well as educators and conference and community organizers around the world. Even still, the bittersweet reality is there are so many wonderful people in our community that we could not award grants to everyone who applied (though we sorely wish we were able to).

Although we are a US-based conference, we strive to bring folks from around the world. In fact, 77% of our travel grant funds were offered to 54 countries outside of the US!

Since PyCon US 2022, the Travel Grant Team has used an individualized approach; we read every application more than once. Funds awarded are more likely to be used under this awards model; in fact, there were no travel grant leftovers from PyCon US 2023. Prior to 2020, the team used an algorithm-based approach that relied on randomization and sometimes left money on the table that could have been used by other applicants.

Exploring Alternatives

We decided to offer an in-person ticket to anyone within the US and an online ticket for anyone outside the US. This resulted in offers for 203 in-person tickets and 420 online tickets (which would otherwise cost $100-$400 each). We know it may be impossible to use the in-person ticket without accompanying travel funds, but we wanted to offer something even if we couldn’t award the full request. If you’d like to request an exchange for an in-person ticket to an online ticket, or vice versa, please email your request to pycon-reg@python.org.

Some questions were raised about how multiple rounds of grant allocations work. Our award emails advise folks that they may request additional funds if the round one award is insufficient. Requesting additional funds removes awardees from the round one travel grant pool and puts them into the second round. Unless we receive new corporate sponsorships or other funds, round two funds come from the funds folks don’t accept in round one.

To clarify the language in the award emails, the complimentary registrations will not be removed from anyone in round 2. That is to say, if you have been offered a complimentary ticket, that offer stands regardless of whether you request additional funds or not. Even if you put yourself into the second round, you will NOT forfeit your complimentary registration.

Find more information on the PyCon US Travel Grants FAQ. If you have feedback on our process, please send it to pycon-aid@python.org.

PyCon US Staff

PS - As a final note, we’d love to continue expanding our travel grant program in the future. If you’d like to help do that, a great way is to encourage your employer or other companies you are connected with to sponsor the PSF or to let them know you notice and appreciate it if they are already a sponsor.

Deb Nicholsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06173618710147431813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-38379436454637563192024-02-28T11:44:00.000-05:002024-02-28T11:44:38.706-05:00PyCon US 2024 Schedule Launch. Introducing our Keynote Speakers

We’re excited to announce the full schedule for PyCon US 2024!

This year, we received a record number of proposals that our Program Committee had to go through: 990 proposals! As a comparison, last year we received a little more than 700 proposals, so it’s almost 40% more proposals compared to the previous year! Thank you to everyone who submitted their proposals.

With these many proposals received, we could easily have enough speakers to fill the program for multiple Python conferences! Our volunteer Program Committee has worked hard to select only 14% among the many strong proposals to create an excellent conference program covering a wide range of subjects for attendees to enjoy. We’re looking forward to meeting all the presenters and learning from them at PyCon US 2024.

Meet Our Keynote Speakers
We are thrilled to announce our Keynote speakers. Please welcome Jay Miller, Kate Chapman, Simon Willison, and Sumana Harihareswara who will be sharing their insights and perspectives on our main conference days, May 17 - May 19, 2024.

Head to the Keynotes page to learn more about the amazing names that make up this year’s Keynote lineup!

Full Schedule Released
Check our updated schedule page to learn more. The schedule has been updated with dates and timing of our Tutorials, Talk Tracks, Charlas Track, and Sponsor Presentations.

Posters will be featured and displayed during all open hours of the Expo Hall and alongside presentations by the authors on Sunday, May 19, 2024. All together, there will be a wide array of topics that we hope experienced and newer Python users will find engaging.

Many thanks to all of those who submitted proposals this year! The schedule would not be the same without all your hard work.

Note that if you’ve attended PyCon US before, you might notice that our scheduling looks slightly different this year. We encourage you to check the schedule ahead of the conference.

Thank You Committees and Reviewers!
Thank you to all of our Program Committee members and proposal reviewers who volunteered their time and hard work! Going through close to one thousand proposals is no easy task. Without their efforts in helping to launch the PyCon US Call for Proposals, this would not have been possible.

Their commitment to managing the process of preparing for CFPs to launch and managing the review process began over 6 months ago. We truly could not have accomplished the final result of launching the schedule today without each of them.

Tutorial Committee: Sarah Kuchinsky, Merilys Huhn, Mridul Seth, Mfon Eti-mfon

Program Committee: Philippe Gagnon, Tereza Iofciu

Charlas Committee: Denny Perez, Cristián Maureira-Fredes, Adolfo Fitoria, Aldo Caneo, Andres Pineda, Arturo Martínez Pacheco, Carlos Maldonado, Daniel Hernández Méndez, Yhonatan Peguero

Poster Committee: Kristen McIntyre

In addition, we want to send a huge thank you to the numerous volunteers who reviewed each of the submissions and worked long hours to make sure PyCon US has a great line-up. The conference would not take place without the support and time of these volunteers.
Tutorial, Summit, Sponsor Presentation & Event Registration

Registration is now open for Tutorials, Sponsor Presentations, Summits, Mentored Sprints for Diverse Beginners, and the PyLadies Auction.

Tutorials - Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16, 2024 - $150.00 per session. This year, we are reaching out to our community to help support one of our favorite events: the PyLadies Charity Auction. We know our wonderful community is bursting with creative, artsy, and generous folks. That’s why we are sending out a community wide call to donate items to this year’s auction. If you’d like to support PyLadies by making a donation, please fill out the PyLadies Charity Auction donation form. To learn more about the event and what to donate, read on!

What to Donate

Need inspiration? Over the years, we’ve seen that people love to bid on items that are artsy, nerdy, and Python-specific. Art, decor, customized tech, and vintage PyCon or Python related swag are all examples of things that will inspire a friendly bidding war. To get more inspiration search ‘PyLadies Auction’ on social media or check out the PyLadies Instagram.

Items that are personalized or have a story tend to attract bidders– DIYers, artists, crafters, and collectors, this is your time to shine! It's also worth thinking about what will show up well on stage. We have a magnifying camera, but smaller and less colorful items like jewelry and watches might be harder for bidders to see than a big piece of art or an adorable, bright colored snake stuffy! On that note, this year we will be holding a raffle at the PyLadies Auction. If you have smaller items– like vintage swag, stickers, or even pens (iykyk)– they can go into the raffle.

Please note that we cannot accept donations of guns, alcohol, cars, real estate, or houses. We may decline other gifts that are inappropriate or impractical at the PSF’s discretion (for example, sorry, no real pythons!).

If you’ve got an item to contribute that you’d like to share in a sneak preview, feel free to post a photo and tag us on the social media platform of your choice!

Donation details

To donate an item, please fill out the PyLadies Charity Auction donation form. This form asks for required information around the person or organization donating, item specifics, and logistics. You will need to indicate if you will ship the item in advance or deliver it in person. You will receive shipping information once you complete the form. The deadline for donations is May 16th, 2024 (that’s the Thursday before the event!).

About the PyLadies Charity Auction

The twelfth PyLadies Charity Auction will be held in-person during PyCon US 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s an evening of fun and refreshments while supporting the PyLadies community!

The Entry cover charge of $35.00 includes dinner and a drink ticket, while the Supporter cover charge of $50.00 includes dinner, a drink ticket, and a $15.00 contribution to PyLadies. Everyone who attends will also have access to the cash bar. To save your place at the Auction, add the PyLadies Auction to your PyCon US registration via your dashboard. Last year we sold out quickly, so if you’d like to go, reserve your ticket soon!
Marie Nordinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15138793242213676112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-149674228212086282024-01-22T15:15:00.000-05:002024-01-22T15:15:52.873-05:00Applications For Booth Space on Startup Row Are Now Open!
Applications For Booth Space on Startup Row Are Now Open

To all the startup founders out there, PyCon US organizers have some awesome news for you! We want to provide a transparent process for this, and we also want to ensure that every attendee, whether they are new to the community, or have been at the conference for the 10th time, have the equal opportunity to propose ideas for PyCon US.

What belongs in a Hatchery program

PyCon US offers a wide range of events for the attendees to engage with the community during the conference. In addition to the talks, Charlas, keynotes, tutorials, posters, and lightning talks, at PyCon US we further support the Python community by hosting summits (e.g. The Python Language Summit, Education Summit), Sprints, and Open Spaces: one-hour meet ups in dedicated rooms throughout the conference. PyCon US also hosts other events like the PyLadies Luncheon, Members Lunch, and PyLadies Auction. We also offer community booths and Startup Row alongside the Sponsor Booths in the expo hall.

Despite all of the above, as conference organizers we still receive great, creative suggestions and ideas from the community for more things that they’d like to see at PyCon US. This is where the Hatchery program comes in.

If you have an idea for new and different kinds of events, activities, summits, or tracks at PyCon US, or things that do not fit in any of the existing talks, charlas, tutorials, and posters tracks, please propose that as a Hatchery.

A few examples of topics that have been accepted for the program (not a complete list, creativity is expressly encouraged):

Maintainers' Summit

The Art of Python

Foreign language talk track (see the PyCon US Charlas, the first track created in the hatchery, and now a part of PyCon US).

Scientific data summit

Mentored Sprints

See the full guidelines and criteria for proposals at https://us.pycon.org/2024/events/hatchery/

Hatchery Program Rebooted!

Since it’s been a few years since the last time the Hatchery program ran, meaning, some folks might have already forgotten about it, and newer community members might not yet know what it’s about. With that in mind we decided that this is a good time for us to introduce some changes to the Hatchery program.

One-off events are encouraged!

Previous versions of the Hatchery prioritized programs that have potential to become a new staple and repeat program at PyCon US, and one-off events were given a lower priority. We recognize that this might put a high barrier of entry, and could potentially cause organizer burnout. People might feel like they are now “obligated” to continue the program year after year even if they no longer have the bandwidth to do it. Therefore, we want to focus on the experimental aspect of Hatchery. If your Hatchery program is accepted this year, you are free to continue it again next year. But if you just want to experiment and host an activity only for this year, that’s okay too!

Rolling admission

You can propose your idea for the Hatchery starting today, until approximately 4 weeks before the conference.

We will be reviewing your ideas and proposals as they come in, and we will do our best to support and accommodate your request. We aim to give you a decision within 2 weeks, depending on the nature of your proposal. (i.e. if your proposal requires a more complicated room set up, we may need extra time to figure out the feasibility for that).

Proposal submissions for the Hatchery Program are open until April 17, 2024, or until all the spaces have been filled.

Note that the conference venue is limited in terms of size and available rooms. We might not be able to provide you with a room you need for your program if you wait until the last minute to submit your idea. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your ideas as soon as you can!

How to submit your Hatchery proposal?

Please visit the PyCon US 2024 Hatchery page. Submissions are open through the PyCon US 2024 Hatchery CFP on Pretalx here. Please note that Pretalx accounts used for the main conference PyCon US 2024 CFP will not be carried over; all submitters will be required to create a new account for the PyCon US 2024 Hatchery CFP.

Thank you. If you have any questions about the Hatchery, please get in touch with us, pycon-hatchery@python.org. The fun pastel and bubblegum color scheme is a special touch by the designers to incorporate a bit of the conference chair’s personality. These colors also happen to be the colors and flavors of ice creams 🍦, which the conference’s chair is known to be fond of. (She has a long running tradition of doing Ice Cream Selfies at conferences).

We’re proud to support and collaborate with Ukrainian designers Anastasia B and Kyryl Ko of Awesomic Inc. whose design and illustrations made the PyCon US website lively and colorful. Our community is comprised of a diverse set of people with unique skill sets, and we want our conference program to be a true reflection of that diversity.
For the new and first-time speakers, be sure to take advantage of the speaker mentorship program where you can be matched with experienced speakers who can help you with crafting your proposal. We are still finalizing the details of this program, so please stay tuned for more news about the PyCon US Hatchery 🐣 and start thinking of ideas you might want to contribute.

Sponsorship Has Tremendous Impact

Sponsors are what make PyCon US and the Python Software Foundation possible. PyCon US is the main source of revenue for the PSF, the non-profit behind the Python language and the Python Packaging Index, and the hub for the Python community.

PyCon US is the largest and longest-running Python gathering globally, with a diverse group of highly engaged attendees, many of whom you won’t find at other conferences. From relatively modest beginnings to serving thousands of in-person attendees—and countless more who participate online and watch talks (sometimes years after they were given)—is a testament to the strength, diversity, and resilience of the Python community.

Since 2011, PyCon US organizers have reserved a row of booths for early-stage technology companies doing new and interesting things with Python. Startup Row has been a fixture of PyCon US for over half the conference's run, and we're pleased to have given over 120 startups the opportunity to share what they're working on with the Python community. Many return as sponsors, and several have gone on to achieve billion-dollar success.

The application process is always competitive, but this year's applicant pool was particularly impressive.

PyCon organizers and the Python Software Foundation are thrilled to welcome seven companies to Startup Row at PyCon US 2023.

Startup Row at PyCon US 2023

Generally Intelligent
It's 2023 and all debate about whether artificial intelligence has finally gone mainstream is pretty much settled. Generally Intelligent is an independent research company developing general-purpose AI agents with human-like intelligence. The company is founded on a motivation to build the tools its founders and team want to use. Examples include Jupyter Ascending and Avalon, a reinforcement learning simulator that is 100x faster than Minecraft.

The company's CEO, Kanjun Qiu, was Chief of Staff at Dropbox and later led AI recruiting company Sourceress, before starting The Archive, Outset Capital, and eventually Generally Intelligent with Josh Albrecht. Albrecht, who serves as CTO of Generally Intelligent and had worked with Qiu on the aforementioned ventures, was a machine learning-focused academic researcher, helped build Addepar as an early engineer, and was a Thiel Fellow mentor.

"We started Generally Intelligent after our recruiting company, which was a great business, but recruiting felt like an insufficiently ambitious problem to solve," said Albrecht. "We hit upon some fundamental fields in AI research — self-supervised learning, reinforcement learning, etc. — and we've been hard at work for the past couple years on those problems. We're most excited about applying reinforcement learning which act in digital environments: web browsers, desktops, and coding environments."

Neptyne
Markdown creator and Daring Fireball blogger John Gruber has said that Excel is the gateway drug to programming. Enter Neptyne, a great web-based collaborative spreadsheet editor with first-class support for Python. Neptyne is great for veteran spreadsheet jockeys, Python newbies who prefer a more visual interface, and data folks looking for a responsive environment in which to prototype and test data enrichment and transformation flows.

Neptyne was co-founded by Douwe Osinga, author of the Deep Learning Cookbook for O'Reilly and an artificial life hobbyist, who previously served stints as a Google staff software engineer, CEO and founder of Triposo (acq'd), and senior director of engineering at Sidewalk Labs for its Delve product. Co-founder Jack Amadeo was also at Sidewalk Labs prior to starting Neptyne, where he served as principal engineer of Delve, a generative design tool for city planning.

"Spreadsheets may sound like an orthogonal problem space, but the back-end of Delve produced a pro forma estimate of real estate development costs, which took the form of a spreadsheet. So we've been thinking about computable, extensible spreadsheets for a long time." said Osinga. "Besides, [co-founder Jack Amadeo] and I really love programming. It just made sense to extend the spreadsheet environment with Python." The company is part of the most recent Y Combinator batch.

Nixtla
Nixtla is developing the open source time series ecosystem with roughly 5,200 Github stars across its suite of projects, the most popular of which are StatsForecast and NeuralForecast.

"Before building a time series data company, we were practitioners," said co-founder Christian Challu. "We started by building the tools we needed for forecasting and anomaly detection. We're always going to be rooted in open source, and we want to keep our packages available to anyone who wants to download and include them in their projects, but we also want to make these tools available via an enterprise-ready API."

Challu continued, "Kind of like what foundation models are doing for NLP, we're building foundation models for time series data."

Co-founders Max Mergenthaler Canseco, Fede Garza Ramírez, Kin Gutiérrez, and Christian Challu are a mix of YC and TechStars founders and AI PhD research scientists aiming to set the standard in statistical, econometric, and neural forecasting algorithms for time series data.

Ponder
Ponder builds on the most popular tools for data science and AI—NumPy and Pandas—extending and scaling these tools to operate directly in enterprise data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, all from an IDE or notebook. Ponder is also the primary maintainer of Modin, an open-source drop-in replacement for Pandas.

"We started with an observation: It's difficult to get people to use a new tool to get stuff done. I encountered that while working on my PhD, trying to convince researchers to use tools I made [with another platform]," said co-founder Devin Petersohn. "Realizing that Pandas was a widely-used tool, and that datasets are getting bigger and bigger, we built Ponder to make a new scale of data analysis accessible to as many developers as possible."

The company is led by CEO Doris Lee (PhD, Berkeley's RISE Lab), president Aditya Parameswaran (who is also an associate professor at the School of Information at UC Berkeley), and Devin Petersohn, who developed Modin as part of his PhD research at Berkeley's RISELab. Ponder publicly announced $7 million in seed funding back in March 2022; Lightspeed led that deal. Ponder's presence on Startup Row really is one of those "circle of life" situations, considering that the Pandas data science package was itself developed and released by a Startup Row company—financial data company Lambda Foundry, which was in Startup Row's inaugural batch back in 2012.

Predibase

Predibase is a declarative configuration and automation framework for machine learning.

"The problem we wanted to solve was the inefficiency and long time-to-value for most machine learning development," said CEO Piero Molino. "Machine learning workflows are also complex, and often inaccessible to all but the best-resourced companies. Instead of building bespoke models and frameworks for everyone, we [at Predibase] are building a simple, declarative, multi-modal machine learning platform. So, with a simple configuration file, people are able to train and deploy machine learning models without needing to solve scaling and reliability challenges."

The company was founded by the creators of low-code deep learning toolbox Ludwig (8.9k stars on Github) and Horovod (13.2k stars on Github), a distributed training framework for TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, and Apache MXNet. Prior to Predibase, CEO Piero Molino was a staff ML/NLP research scientist at Stanford and helped start Uber AI Labs, where he created Ludwig and worked with Predibase CTO Travis Addair, who served as lead maintainer for Horovod.

Pynecone
Pynecone delivers on the promise of pure Python web applications built on an open source framework. And it has seen some pretty serious community traction—including 8.1k Github stars—in the few short months since they launched in December 2022.

Pynecone is co-founded by Nikhil Rao, who previously spent over 3 years as an engineer in Apple's Special Projects Group after the tech giant bought autonomous vehicle technology company Drive.ai, where Rao worked as a software engineer. Co-founder Alek Petuskey was previously a machine learning engineer at Ancestry after completing research and software engineering internships at Berkeley SETI, Bender Lab, and NASA Ames. Pynecone is part of the most recent Y Combinator batch.

Rao said, "Current low-code frameworks may be accessible, but they're also limited in their capabilities. We're trying to create a framework for Python developers to build full web applications, without running the risk of outgrowing the framework they started with."

Pynecone is currently hiring, including for its founding full-stack engineer.

Wherobots
Wherobots is building the database platform for geospatial analytics and AI.

Founded by the original creators of the open-source Apache Sedona distributed spatial data processing framework (1.4k Github stars). CEO Mo Sarwat was previously an associate professor of computer science at Arizona State University. Co-founder and engineering lead Jia Yu is on leave from a tenure-track professorship at Washington State University and was a graduate research and teaching assistant at ASU.

Sarwat said, "We're focused on geospatial data, and Python is one of the most popular languages for interacting with data in general, but geospatial data in particular. There's no better place to connect with the Python community than PyCon." Wherobots is currently hiring for infrastructure and developer relations roles.

How You Can Support Startup Row Companies
There are many ways to support Startup Row companies, both at PyCon and afterward:

Visit Startup Row! As the name implies, it's literally a row of booths for startups at PyCon US. You can't miss it!

Join a Startup Row company! Many companies on Startup Row during the main conference will also be present at the PyCon Jobs Fair on Sunday.

Contribute to their open source projects! Many of the companies on Startup Row this year have strong roots in open source, and new contributors are always welcome.

Offer constructive feedback and help! Startups thrive on constructive feedback. Share your perspectives and offer to help out if you think it can benefit the team.

More importantly, though, it might be good to take a note from Ned Batchelder's keynote talk. Unlike most of the big, established sponsors presenting in the Expo Hall, startups are in the business of "figuring things out," sometimes on the fly. Be curious, kind, and constructive. And don't be surprised if even a CEO doesn't have all the answers quite yet.

Thank You's and Acknowledgements
Startup Row would not be possible without a lot of trust, logistical support, and hard work from countless folks.

Thanks to organizers and volunteers who tirelessly work to make PyCon US such a positive, engaging experience, whether that's in-person or virtually. (And, to break the fourth wall for a moment: thanks for giving me the opportunity to help out with a small but very fun part of the conference!)

Thanks also to the dozens of entrepreneurs who took time out of their no-doubt busy schedules to apply to Startup Row. Your time and attention is valuable, and we appreciate all the thought and consideration that went into your applications.

Penultimately, a special thanks goes out to the selection committee which helps score and rank Startup Row applications. This would literally not be possible without the expertise these folks bring to the table, especially since this year was probably the most competitive applicant pool yet.

Finally, thanks to the 7 companies that were able to make it to Salt Lake City and share what they're working on with the over 2,000 folks who come to PyCon US. Thank you, all, again.
Jason Rowleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08505694123231127554noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-10107647915990261322023-04-17T17:56:00.002-04:002023-04-17T17:57:15.015-04:00PyCon US 2023 Sprints and Intro to Sprinting Workshop
We are super excited to announce the PyCon US 2023 Sprints!

When: Sprints will take place on April 24th through April 27th, 2023 from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm MST

Where: At Pycon US at the Salt Palace Convention Center in rooms 250 and 251

Project Signups: Get your project listed so that attendees can help support it by signing up here Submit Sprint Project:

What are Sprints?

PyCon Development Sprints are up to four days of intensive learning and development on an open source project(s) of your choice, in a team environment. With two decades of this event series under our belt, this year's conference is sure to be a memorable one. We’re looking forward to celebrating 20 years of gathering together to connect the worldwide Python community!

Here you can now access the dates of our Tutorials, Talk Tracks, Charlas Track, and Sponsor Presentations. Posters will be featured for the second year in a row and displayed during all open hours of the Expo Hall as well as alongside presentations by the authors on Sunday, April 23, 2023. All together, there will be a wide array of topics that we hope experienced and newer Python users will find engaging.

Many thanks to all of those that submitted proposals this year! The schedule would not be the same without all your hard work.

Thank You Committees and Reviewers!

Without the efforts of the committee members that volunteered their time and hard work in launching the PyCon US Call for Proposals, this would not have been possible. Thank you to all of our committee members and reviewers!

Program Committee: Philippe Gagnon

Charlas Committee: Denny Perez, Cristián Maureira-Fredes, Adolfo Fitoria, Arturo Pacheco, Alison Orellana

Poster Committee: Kristen McIntyre

In addition, we want to send a huge thank you to the numerous volunteers that reviewed each of the submissions and worked long hours making sure PyCon US has a great line-up. We can’t even imagine how trans Pythonistas and their families in Utah are feeling today. We also recognize that this makes visiting Salt Lake City from other places less appealing, especially for trans and gender-nonconforming Pythonistas.

At this moment, we’d like to reiterate our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space at PyCon US. We will continue to uphold our code of conduct and we will be continuing to value each and every member of our community, including queer, trans, genderqueer and non-binary members of our community. Our standards:

“Every member of our community has the right to have their identity respected. The Python community is dedicated to providing a positive experience for everyone, regardless of age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, or religion (or lack thereof), education, or socio-economic status.”

We realize that when the political situation changes between our booking of a venue and the holding of the event, that some people who may have been planning to attend may no longer feel comfortable attending. PyCon US accepts “no questions asked” refunds or conversions to a virtual ticket for any reason, right up to the start of the event.

This is our second contracted year in Salt Lake City. PyCon US moves on to Pittsburgh for 2024 and 2025 and we are currently evaluating venues for 2026 and 2027. We are always working to do better and we welcome your thoughts both on ways that we might support vulnerable members of our community and on places where we might hold future events in the US that will welcome and appreciate the diversity of our community.
Deb Nicholsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06173618710147431813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-19422795557535084162023-02-01T10:54:00.007-05:002023-02-01T11:10:55.118-05:00Applications Are Open for Booth Space on Startup Row
2023 is a big year for PyCon US. It’s kind of hard to believe that we’ll be celebrating 20 years of code and community. And for well over half that time, PyCon US has supported early-stage entrepreneurs by offering teams complementary conference passes and booth space on Startup Row.

Great news: Applications are now open, but not for long. If you’re one of those action-oriented, “do now, read later” startup founders, applying for a spot is as easy as creating an account or logging into your existing account on the PyCon US 2023 website, and then submitting an application. (The application won’t load if you aren’t signed in.)

Act fast, though: Applications close on February 26, 2023, and we aim to inform recipients by early March.

What is Startup Row?

Startup Row, as the name suggests, is a section of booths at PyCon US set aside for startups that are making innovative use of the Python programming language.

Since 2011, over 100 companies have had the opportunity to share what they're building (and how they're building it) with the thousands of engineers, scientists, students, tinkerers, and all-around enthusiasts who attend PyCon US every year.

Does my startup qualify?

Here are the criteria:

Python is used in your tech or business stack in some capacity (open source, proprietary, data science, machine learning, orchestration, marketing automation, etc.).

At the time of application, your startup is 2.5 years old or less (if you had a major pivot or delayed product launch, measure from there)

At the time of application, you have 20 or fewer full-time employees, including the founders.

You or your company will pay for travel and lodging to PyCon US in Salt Lake City, Utah.

You have not previously presented on Startup Row at PyCon US (if you previously applied but were not accepted, you are encouraged to apply again!)

What does my company get, if accepted?

Excellent question!

Here’s what’s in it for you:

Two conference passes (you’re welcome to stay for the post-conference sprints, too!)

Booth space on Startup Row in the Expo Hall on April 21st and April 22nd

An (optional) table at the PyCon US Jobs Fair on April 23rd (after all, there's no better place to recruit great engineers and data scientists than PyCon US).

PyCon US 2023 website placement and a featured mention on the PyCon US blog

Eternal glory

How do I apply with my startup?

Applying for a spot on Startup Row is easy! Here’s how to do it:

First, either create an account or log in to your existing account (if you created an account for a previous PyCon US, you’ll have to create and confirm a new one)

Fill out the Startup Row application (a link to which can also be found at the bottom of the Startup Row page on the PyCon US site) by February 26, 2023

Wait to hear back from the selection committee! If selected, you’ll be notified in early March, giving you plenty of time to complete registration and arrange travel.

Again, the deadline to apply is February 26, 2023 by 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

Can I learn more about Startup Row?

You bet! Check out the Startup Row page for more details and testimonials from prior Startup Row participants. (There’s a link to the application there, too!)

Who do I contact with questions about Startup Row?

First off, if you have questions about PyCon US in general, you can send an email to the PyCon US organizing team at pycon-reg@python.org. We’re always happy to help.

For specific Startup Row-related questions, reach out to co-chair Jason D. Rowley via email at jdr [at] omg [dot] lol, or find some time in his calendar at calendly [dot] com [slash] jdr.

What is PyCon US doing to keep attendees safe?

Following health and safety guidelines, in-person PyCon US attendees will be required to wear an appropriate protective face mask and provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. More information can be found on the Health and Safety Guidelines page.

Because Startup Row is an in-person feature of PyCon US, people who have not been vaccinated or are unwilling to comply with mask requirements cannot be accommodated. We appreciate your understanding.

Hang on, what’s the deadline again?

The deadline to apply is February 26, 2023 by 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
Good luck!

Jason Rowleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08505694123231127554noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-71678756689506323752022-12-06T14:04:00.000-05:002022-12-06T14:04:28.865-05:00PyCon US 2023 Registration Launch!
The news you’ve been waiting for is finally here - registration for PyCon US 2023 is officially open!

PyCon US will take place April 19 - April 27, 2023, online and in Salt Lake City, Utah. The core of the conference, April 21 - April 23, 2023, packs in three days worth of our community’s 95 best talks, amazing keynote speakers, and our famed lightning talks to close out each day, but it is much more than that.

It’s gathering together with the members of our community, to learn from and share with. It’s joining a conversation in the hallway with the creators of open source projects. It’s taking yourself from beginner to intermediate, or intermediate to advanced. For some, it’s getting started with Python for the first time.

We hope you’ll join us for this special anniversary year, celebrating 20 years of PyCon.

Health & Safety Guidelines

PyCon US is committed to protecting the health and safety of our community. To ensure that we are gathering safely, we have implemented COVID-19 guidelines and protocols to be followed by all attendees during the event. We ask that you please review these guidelines prior to registration.

Please note: We will not be rolling back our mask requirement. If the situation changes and there are additional ways to keep attendees safe, we may incorporate those strategies closer to the event. Please check back regularly to stay updated on current guidelines.

How to Register

Once you have created an account on the PyCon US 2023 conference website, you can register via the registration button on your dashboard. This is the only way to get the conference rates so book now while supplies last!

More information can be found on the Venue and Hotels page.

Note: Beware of Housing Pirates! PyCon US or Orchid Events will not be calling delegates to sell rooms. If you are contacted by an agency other than Orchid Events offering to make your hotel reservations, we urge you to not use their services. We cannot protect you against them if you do book a reservation.

Cancellation Fees

Registration cancellations must be submitted in writing and received by April 3, 2023, in order to receive a refund minus the $50 cancellation fee ($25 for students; waived for cancellation due to health reasons). No refunds will be granted for cancellations received after April 3, 2023, unless you must cancel for any health-related reasons (see more details under Attendance in the Health & Safety Guidelines).

In lieu of cancellation, you are able to transfer your registration to another person. This is especially important for recipients of Travel Grants attending from abroad. PyCon US strives to support the Python community in attending, no matter where they are traveling from.

Travel Grants

Check out the Travel Grant page to learn more about the support we provide for travel, hotel, and registration to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend PyCon US. We actively encourage people to apply for travel grants and welcome applications from attendees who otherwise would not be able to attend. There are many ways to get involved if you are interested in serving the community and meeting others as part of the team who makes the conference possible!

The two major opportunities to volunteer before the conference are happening right now — we need volunteers to help our CFP Committees review proposal submissions and help select the topics that will be presented at this year’s conference as well as volunteers to join our Online Experience Committee to assist in enhancing the PyCon US virtual experience and boost engagement for our online attendees.

CFP Reviewers
We are looking for reviewers from all backgrounds to help select a diverse range of topics presented at PyCon US 2023. Proposal reviews will take place via Pretalx and the review process will be facilitated by the PyCon US CFP Committees. There will be two rounds of reviews with Round 1 beginning mid December. If you would like to volunteer, we ask that you are available to take part during the following timeline (ideally 10-12 hours per week during each round):

December 10-December 26: Review Round 1

December 27-January 10: Review Round 2

We are currently recruiting reviewers for the following tracks:

Talks

Tutorials

Posters

Charlas

If you are interested in helping review submissions, please fill out this form no later than November 25, 2022.

Online Experience Committee
PyCon US is introducing a new volunteer committee this year to enhance the PyCon US virtual experience and increase online attendee engagement. The Online Experience Committee will assist with the building out and moderation of the PyCon US virtual platform, Hubilo. The committee will begin working in late January/early February and will work closely with the PyCon US events team and AV team to coordinate live streaming of all recorded tracks during the event.

For more information about the committee member role description, visit this page and submit your application here.

There will be opportunities to sign up for on-site volunteer roles at PyCon US 2023 once the date of the conference is a bit closer. We will announce each sign-up opportunity both on this via the PyCon US Twitter page and the PyCon US website, so follow along for the chance to volunteer as one of the people who helps put PyCon US on for the worldwide Python community!
Olivia Saulshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02332425566237042576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-46565988056109856322022-10-18T14:59:00.000-04:002022-10-18T14:59:27.665-04:00PyCon US 2023 Launches! Our conference in Salt Lake City was a success, and we’re looking forward to returning in 2023. We hear this concern and recognize the risk and impact these laws impose on people who can become pregnant. PyCon US plans to take extra efforts to create a safe and inclusive environment throughout the duration of the conference, including extending our “no questions asked” refund or conversion to a virtual ticket for any reason, right up to the start of the event.

PyCon US is a community conference centered around creating a valuable and inclusive experience for each member of our community to network and collaborate within the open source space. Diversity, equity and inclusion are an important focus of PyCon US and the Python Software Foundation’s mission, and they are valued and implemented through both the PyCon US and PSF Code of Conduct and Diversity Statement. PyCon US values each member of our community, and welcomes all individuals to participate regardless of age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, or religion (or lack thereof), education, or socio-economic status.

Organizing a large event like PyCon US takes many years of planning and preparation, with host city selection starting three to four years before the event. The potential location starts with a thorough evaluation of the city, combined with our best estimates for conference size and needs. It is through our team’s advanced planning strategy that we are able to provide the unique and valuable experience that our community deserves. Due to the prohibitive financial loss the PSF would incur to cancel or change the current contract with the Salt Palace Convention Center and local hotels, not to mention finding an alternative venue, PyCon US 2023 will go on as planned in Salt Lake City. We understand that some community members may feel hesitant about joining us in Salt Lake City this year and hope that anyone not comfortable with attending in person will consider joining us at PyCon US 2023 virtually.

The PyCon US team will be researching local Salt Lake City organizations who support and provide resources to women, girls, and people from marginalized genders to team up with in order to promote inclusion and make the most of our community’s presence while in Salt Lake City. Feel free to make suggestions by emailing pycon-reg@python.org! PyCon US aims to empower all members of our community and foster a positive experience for all who participate.

We welcome and request input from the community on ways PyCon US can make an impact and create a safe environment for our attendees at PyCon US 2023. If you have any ideas or suggestions, or any questions about PyCon US, contact us by emailing pycon-reg@python.org.

Moving Forward

As mentioned before, PyCon US selects host cities beginning three to four years before the event with PyCon US 2024 and PyCon US 2025 contracted to take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The PyCon US team will begin host city selection for 2026-2027 this year and will be selecting a host city based upon these criteria. In addition, the PyCon US team will take local health care restrictions into consideration as well as any prevailing attitudes that could negatively affect the experience of our attendees. Our team will evaluate whether the state and city policies are non-discriminatory, safe, and inclusive for all, including people who can become pregnant, trans people and other members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and everyone else in our Python community. As learned through the planning of PyCon US 2023, we will move forward keeping in mind the challenge that policies and legislation can change from when the city is selected to the actual conference dates given the constantly changing political climate.

The PyCon US team would love to hear where our community would like to see PyCon US 2026 and PyCon US 2027 take place. Email pycon-reg@python.org to share your suggestions as well as any additional feedback for what we can do to ensure an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for all.

Written in collaboration with the PyCon US team and PyCon US Board Committee
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-45553632271300059772022-06-13T13:16:00.000-04:002022-06-13T13:16:47.961-04:00PyCon US 2022 Transparency ReportWith a return to in-person events, PyCon US has taken care to maintain excellency in the safety of our events both through our Code of Conduct and our Health and Safety Guidelines. A key piece of the enforcement of these is the transparency of its outcomes. Below, you’ll find details on the reports that we received for Code of Conduct violations as well as self-reported cases of COVID-19.
Code of Conduct

PyCon US strives to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees. Our Code of Conduct has been put in place as a guideline to ensure that community members feel safe during the event.

This year we continued our efforts to improve our Code of Conduct (CoC) response and reporting by offering staff, volunteers, and community members an opportunity to participate in a CoC training. In having more people trained, we established a more robust and diverse team to accept reports and respond to incidents both at in-person and online events.

We have prepared the following to help the community understand what kind of incident reports we received and how the staff responded during PyCon US 2022.
Summary of Reported Incidents

There were a total of 7 reports, all made via email. Note that all violations that occurred during the conference were reported via our Code of Conduct email address and thus, mask violations are also included here:

3 reports regarding the mask requirement where vendors, staff, or attendees were not following the guidelines.

1 report that a vendor's staff were not following the mask requirement in the session rooms.

The vendor followed up with specific staff and required them to follow the guidelines or be sent home.

2 emails advised of a location where the mask requirement was not being followed.

Our staff went to that location to address the individuals

1 report of inappropriate social media direct message. The reporter asked that this not be a formal report but as an informational report should there be more.

No action was taken

1 report of verbiage on an open space title that was inappropriate.

Staff went to the open space board and removed the inappropriate card and replaced it with a shorter title version with a note as to why it was changed. The author of the card was not identified to follow-up.

2 reports of inappropriate comments during an event.

1 - Staff addressed the report with the presenter who made the comment. An apology email was sent to the reporter and a public apology was made by the presenter.

2 - Staff addressed the report with the presenter who made the comments. The necessity of more thoughtful approaches to addressing an international audience was made clear to the individual.

Health and Safety Guidelines

We took the health and safety of those who chose to attend PyCon US in-person very seriously. The mask requirement, vaccine verification process, and social-distance seating in all our event rooms were part of our efforts to provide a safe event.

Our staff actively monitored our spaces and reminded attendees of the mask requirement. We made sure our meal setups were well-spaced and provided adequate seating for everyone to eat while seated.

Summary of Reported Cases

There were reports directly to our staff from 12 people that tested positive for COVID-19 either during or following the event. Our post-conference survey did ask the question of COVID-19 status, of 219 responses 16 responded they tested positive. It can not be determined if any of the 16 were also part of the 12 that contacted us directly. We are also unable to determine if the exposure occurred within the conference center space itself or external events, parties, and gatherings around the city.

Thank you to all those who attended PyCon US 2022 and followed the guidelines put in place!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11638628.post-88482750142285719902022-05-23T13:42:00.023-04:002022-05-23T14:00:55.760-04:00PyCon US 2022 Recap and Recording Announcement
We would like to announce that the first group of PyCon US 2022 recordings, the Keynotes and Lightning Talks, are now available on our YouTube channel. We were looking forward to providing the PyCon US 2022 recordings very soon after the event – especially since we know many of you weren’t able to attend this year’s conference in person. Regrettably, we have encountered some technical obstacles this year. We are working with our AV partners at the venue to resolve things as soon as possible.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, we were unable to work with our usual vendor for PyCon US conferences. They are based in Canada and understandably didn’t want to commit to travel to the US this year. This resulted in PyCon US contracting with a new AV vendor for the first time in many years. We were very thorough in providing details, but ultimately this was a new team doing work to new specifications.

The onsite AV team has provided an update on the technical issues as follows: “Some of the sessions are missing audio or graphics and are being worked through. There is a backup drive of all the content that has been mailed to the editing team to hopefully resolve those that are missing graphics and/or audio.” We remain hopeful that everyone’s sessions will eventually be posted with all audio and graphics intact, but it is going to take more time than we would like.

We hope the community understands the challenges in planning this year’s event and we greatly appreciate your support and patience as we work through this issue. Planning a safe, comfortable in-person event after two years of virtual added many additional pieces that took the PSF’s small staff time and effort to implement. The Startup Row lineup has been finalized, and we're very excited to give eight early-stage companies a unique opportunity to share what they're working on with the vibrant, diverse group of folks who come to PyCon US.

Selected through a competitive application process, Startup Row companies receive the perks of conference sponsorship without the financial burden. Many companies which previously presented on Startup Row come back to PyCon as sponsors. Ultimately, though, Startup Row is the PSF's way of giving back to technical entrepreneurs who expand and enrich the Python ecosystem. Popular tools like Pandas, Plotly, and Docker were all created by Startup Row companies. And some of the companies coming to Salt Lake City may soon become the standard-bearers of their categories.

After a challenging couple of years, it's going to be great to get back to the in-person conference experience, and 2022's Startup Row batch is perhaps the most impressive yet.

In alphabetical order, let's...

Meet The 2022 Startup Row Batch

Chainguard
The pace and scale of software supply chain attacks ramped up significantly over the past couple of years, imposing enormous time and financial costs, and in some cases jeopardizing the security of important data. "Chainguard is here to make securing the software supply chain part of the software development workflow, making the secure way to do things the easiest way to do things," said the company’s head of developer education, Lisa Tagliaferri.

Deeply rooted in the open source ecosystem, the remote-first startup aims to drive adoption of open source software like SigStore, SLSA, and Tekton to assess and validate software integrity throughout the development and implementation lifecycle. Founded and led by core maintainers of some of these projects, the company is finding early commercial traction with large enterprises in regulated industries such as financial services and healthcare while continuing to promote and contribute to the open source software ecosystem. The company is investor-backed, with institutional capital coming from Amplify Partners and an array of individual angel investors.

Devron
Not so long ago, federated machine learning was the purview of academic AI researchers and software skunkworks in big tech companies. A technique which facilitates ML model training and tuning across distributed data sources, federated machine learning is a privacy-preserving methodology capable of delivering accurate, explainable ML models without the need for large centralized datasets, computing resources, and cumbersome pre-processing to maintain compliance with privacy regulations and internal best practices.

Founded in 2020 by CEO Kartik Chopra, a former undercover CIA technical intelligence officer, Devron aims to deliver the benefits of federated machine learning techniques to enterprises and government agencies that seek to harness data that may be scattered throughout various parts of their organizations. Prolific investment firm Tiger Global led Devron's Series A round in February 2022, which saw participation from prior investors FinTech Collective, Afore Capital, and Essence Venture Capital.

OpenBlender
When it comes to ML model performance, context can sometimes make all the difference. Most production ML models are trained on a dataset that's unique to the task at hand, but enriching that proprietary data with contextual external data can often result in more robust, reliable ML models. But as anyone who works with data—from first-timers to PhDs—can tell you, connecting external data to internal data is rarely as simple as importing a couple of CSVs and typing out a pd.merge() function.

OpenBlender is a San Diego, CA-based startup building a toolkit that enables data science teams to enrich their internal datasets with publicly-avaiblable geospatial and time series data from any source without the hassle of building data extraction, processing, reconciliation, and integration workflows just to access a couple of features. Named a 2021 "Cool Vendor" in data for AI and machine learning by Gartner, OpenBlender indexes and updates an ever-expanding library of external datasets which can be pulled, updated, and blended by time or location via Pandas and R dataframes.

OtterTune
One of the more tedious aspects of managing complex software systems is configuration–the process of flipping virtual switches and turning virtual knobs to first get a system up and running, and then to maximize performance and reliability of that system. A key element of most software architectures, having a properly configured database is important, but manual tuning can be costly and time-consuming.

OtterTune, a startup spun out of the Carnegie Mellon Database Group and led by CMU Professor Andy Pavlo, builds upon academic research into a machine learning-powered framework for automatically configuring database management systems (DBMSs) for each type of workload they're tasked with. The scope and complexity of modern systems is beyond the comprehension of any individual person, the company says, so machine learning techniques are helpful in discovering and setting the hundreds of virtual knobs where they need to be to achieve optimal system performance. OtterTune currently supports cloud-based MySQL and PostgreSQL databases provided by Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS, as well as certain on-premise database implementations. As an academic project, OtterTune was partially funded by the National Science Foundation; as a startup, the company raised seed funding led by Accel.

Ploomber
Facilitating rapid exploration, manipulation, and processing of datasets, notebook-style environments have changed the way data scientists do their work. However, the ease of pasting a block of data-crunching code from notebook to another can result in some serious maintenance headaches for those tasked with re-plumbing a collection of notebooks. Creating and maintaining one data processing pipeline that can be used across multiple notebooks and run in the cloud can streamline the workflows of data science teams.

Ploomber is building open source cloud infrastructure to help data scientists bring best practices from the software engineering world into their workflows. Ploomber helps them build and deploy repeatable, maintainable data processing pipelines that can be shared across local notebooks and execute in a cloud environment. The New York City-based company participated in the most recent Y Combinator accelerator batch. Its main GitHub repository has over 2,300 stars and Ploomber's open source package is currently downloaded over 15,000 times per month.

Rasgo
The performance of a machine learning model is largely dependent on the quality of the data it was trained on, and the process of sourcing raw data and transforming it into something that's usable for ML is both time-consuming and tiresome.

Rasgo is a New York-based company which offers a suite of data prep power tools, both through a free Python package and a low-code web interface. The company also recently unveiled RasgoQL, an open source Python package that enables data teams to write Python locally while executing SQL on a cloud-hosted data warehouse. Aimed at automating aspects of the data transformation and feature engineering, the company's goal is to help data science and machine learning teams accelerate time to value: from raw data to robust features for training ML models. The Rasgo team is emphatic in its support for the open source community and at the time of writing, its RasgoQL package has been downloaded over 8,000 times in less than 30 days since release. The company has raised over $25 million in venture capital, with backing from Unusual Ventures and Insight Partners, among others.

Slim.AI
Containers changed the way a lot of software is built and used, especially in cloud environments. Boston-area startup Slim.AI aims to make the process of building and deploying cloud-native software just a little more seamless. Slim.AI users can discover and gain visibility into software containers, all while improving efficiency by pruning unused parts of those containers.

The company is led by Kyle Quest—the creator of DockerSlim, an open source package with over 13,100 stars on GitHub—and John Amaral, who previously led product for Cisco Cloud Security. Offering more than the container minification features found in the open source DockerSlim package, Slim.ai is building a more wholistic SaaS solution for facilitating container-driven development workflows. Founded in January 2021, Slim.AI is backed by investors including Decibel, Insight Partners, and boldstart Ventures, among others.

Union.ai

Orchestrating machine learning workflows is a challenge for large data science and AI teams operating on high-scale projects. Flyte started at Lyft as an internal effort to build a machine learning orchestration platform. The intention of Flyte is to integrate and automate diverse workflows across software-, data-, and ML engineering disciplines through one platform. Flyte has been used at Lyft, Spotify, and Freenome, among others, and was incubated by the Linux Foundation after going open source in 2020. Union.ai is positioned as an infrastructure partner, helping enterprise customers access the benefits of Flyte.

How You Can Support Startup Row Companies
There are many ways to support Startup Row companies, both at PyCon and afterward:

Visit Startup Row! As the name implies, it's literally a row of booths for startups at PyCon US. You can't miss it!

Join a Startup Row company! Many companies on Startup Row during the main conference will also be present at the PyCon Jobs Fair on Sunday, May 1st. During the main conference, don't be bashful about going up to their booths and asking about open opportunities.

Contribute to their open source projects! Many of the companies on Startup Row this year have strong roots in open source, and new contributors are always welcome.

Offer constructive feedback and help! Startups thrive on constructive feedback. Share your perspectives and offer to help out if you think it can benefit the team.

Most importantly: Be understanding. Starting something is really hard, and running an early stage startup is often like building an airplane while already airborne. It's okay if someone doesn't have all the answers yet. Learn about what they're working on, ask good questions, and let them know how you can be helpful.

Acknowledgements
Breaking the fourth wall for the conclusion here, I have so many thank-you's to deliver.

First of all, thanks so much to PyCon organizers for the incredible work you all do to make PyCon US a reality, whether it's in person or virtually. The work everyone does to deliver an engaging, welcoming, and safe experience for sponsors and attendees does not go unnoticed. (And thanks for the opportunity to help out with a small but very fun part of the conference!)

Thanks also to all the entrepreneurs who applied with their companies. The application may have taken only 20 or 30 minutes to complete, but that's a half hour that could've otherwise been spent on hiring, or talking to users, or shipping code. (Or, you know, doing something non-work related.) Thanks for taking the time and attention.

This really was one of the strongest applicant pools yet, so a penultimate thanks goes out to the selection committee that helps process and stack-rank applications. Thanks to the Startup Row alumni and other community members who were able to help out.

Finally and most importantly, thanks to the 8 companies coming to Salt Lake City at the end of the month. It's been great getting to know you over a series of emails and video chats, and it'll be even better to see you in person. Congrats again for earning a spot on Startup Row at PyCon US 2022!
Jason Rowleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08505694123231127554noreply@blogger.com0
